DIY dewy skin

Have you ever tried out a dewy skin foundation tutorial and it looks amazing… until 15 minutes later and it’s sliding all over your face? Even though I have dry skin (so makeup tends to last a lot longer), I couldn’t get by with just foundation and no setting powder, which, of course, mattifies your face and defeats the purpose of trying to achieve dewy skin.

However, I recently discovered a completely obvious way to make sure my skin remains it’s dewy I-woke-up-like-this state: using a setting spray.

Completely obvious, and absolutely genius. See below for the products I use to get perfect dewy skin that lasts all day.

Start with a quick-absorbing face oil. I use the Eucerin facial oil as a starting point for dewy skin. Using a face oil rather than only a moisturizer, especially if you have dry skin gives you that glow-from-within look and naturally highlights the high points of your face.

Use a moisturizing foundation or CC cream. I prefer CC creams because it’s exactly what I want for everyday use: the benefits and consistency of BB cream but the coverage of a light foundation. A CC cream will only add to your glow, especially if you apply it with a damp beauty blender.

Use a moisturizing concealer to cover spots and blemishes, and to brighten the under eye area. I love the NYX HD concealer: It’s supposedly a dupe for the NARS creamy concealer but I haven’t tried that one so I can’t give my verdict, but I can say for the price you’re getting a quality product. I apply this in the triangle shape underneath my eyes, down the bridge of my nose and on the center of my forehead (I will do a mini tutorial on Snapchat this Friday on how to achieve this look so do look out for it! Use a translucent powder only directly underneath your eyes. This is probably the biggest trick from the entire post: You have to set your concealer, but only directly underneath your eyes where it may crease. This will make sure it keeps the dewiness on your cheek area but won’t let your concealer slide. If you’re covering a spot, make sure you apply a tiny bit of setting powder to that too.

Use a dewy setting spray to finish off the look. NYX has a dewy setting spray and it’s probably one of the best makeup setting sprays I have ever used, at a fraction of the price of the higher end ones. The results are amazing and my makeup really did last from 8 am right up until 10 pm when I took it off. I was a little iffy at first when I bought it, but the reviews online are absolutely fantastic and were 100% right. It also made my CC cream apply very skin-looking without compromising on coverage.

If you’re looking for a very natural way to wear foundation, I highly recommend trying out this technique; it doesn’t take ages to apply and is perfect for the hot weather we’ve been experiencing in Johannesburg.
