The wait is finally over, Urban Decay is finally opening their doors this week in Sandton, South Africa! (Unfortunately it wasn’t in time for Eid as it’s only opening on Saturday, but obviously not any less exciting.) If you’re not familiar with the brand, or are completely stumped when it comes to picking the products that are the absolute must have, you’ve come to the right place.
The Naked Palette.
Obviously. But with four to choose from, and not everyone being able to purchase the whole vault, I would recommend going with Naked 2. I find the colours in thus particular palette the most versatile with it’s perfect mix of both shimmer and matte shades (great colours for both day looks and evening looks), and is flattering on all skin tones.
The Eyeshadow Primer Potion
You know those infamous questions of “if you were stuck on an Island and you could only have 5 beauty products which would you choose?” Well, for me, this primer potion would be 3 of them. It’s the best item in my beauty bag, hands down. It’s basically like (non sticky) glue for your eyeshadow, to make it last all day (or even until the next morning, don’t ask me how I know that). I’ve tried applying eyeshadow without it, and it only results in an oily mess where the shadow creates that line in the crease. Not pretty. To top it off, it also makes sure your eyeshadow looks super pigmented. Definitely a super product. (I use the shade original. I’ve tried the others but this one is still my favourite).
The Makeup Setting Spray
A lot of Urban Decay’s products revolve around the lasting effect, and this setting spray is the holy grail of lasting makeup. Before Urban Decay hit our shores, I made sure I got my hands on it (from Muse SA) for my wedding, because if you look on any reputable wedding makeup website, this is the number one recommended product. My makeup did not budge. I love using it on days where I know I’ll be out in the sun, because for me it makes sure my makeup is sweat proof as well. It’s not only extremely refreshing, but also makes your makeup look flawless and blended, and takes away any cakey-ness powder causes (It’s not pictured because my one is so stained- I never leave home without it and make sure I have the travel size one in my handbag or car always)
The 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil
Top beauty question asked: “How do I stop my eyeliner from smudging?” Smudged liner (and not the good kind of sultry smudge) is definitely the bane of any woman’s existence. I can almost guarantee that even women that are completely adverse to beauty and makeup own or have owned a black eyeliner pencil at some point in their life (I was that girl who tried to get away with eyeliner on my waterline in school. Never worked.) It’s one of those non-negotiable staples in your makeup bag, but finding a good one is considerably hard. The Urban Decay’s Glide on Eye Pencil is not only the blackest liner I’ve used, it’s still as black at 5pm as when you put it on at 9am. I hate liners that flake off and leave you with raccoon eyes (which only makes dark circles look that much worse) and even the most expensive of brands can’t seem to get the formula correct. If you have problems with liner and can’t seem to find one that works for you, I definitely recommend trying this one out.
The Eyeshadow Pots
As you can gather from my post, my favourites from UD are the eye products. The other products from the range like lipsticks and foundations are, of course, to die for, but these are the products that I use every single time I apply makeup. My favourite eyeshadow from UD is called Twice Baked, and I use it almost every day. It’s a gorgeous shimmery brown that really makes my eyes pop, and is quite effortless. I genuinely use only this on days that I’m rushing (on the lids up to the crease) and I always, always get complimented on my eye makeup when I do. It’s a fool proof way to take your makeup to the next level. (Also, I’ve tried this trick with other brown eyeshadows and it just did not give the same effect).
What are your must haves from Urban Decay? Will you be queuing to get your fix on Saturday?
